KO1 Fight Night Review

FULL CONTACT SHOW
by Sensei Martin Blakeway

Once again I have to mention those loyal reliable members for dedicating their time to help in the running of this show. Steve Pride for judging, Wayne Whitehouse - Fighter preparation, Chris Whiting on time keeping & scoring, Vince McKenzie & Richard Barrett on cornering and helping the door and John Skeldon for running the door. To all others that helped in many ways - Thanks.

Fighters began turning up from all over the country - From Scotland to The Isle of White and the anticipation of what was to come was exciting everyone. Full-Contact Fights Reviewed You couldn't script this any more fantastic than it is - (except we could have four wins out of our four fighters) the dedication, commitment and sheer guts for these guys to get in there and fight for the club and themselves is a great platform to start - all have proved they can mix with the best out there and the sportsmanship and the respect given to their opponents after they have just tried to knock them out is great to witness and a credit to the association - true sportsmen with a desire to test themselves at the highest level.

With all the fighters weighed in, it was time to start the KO'd 1 FIGHT NIGHT - we promised knockout action but no-one could have predicted was to come ! - After the short introduction from the MC it was time to "Get it on" .. The music started blasting out pumping tunes and the voice started to introduce the first fighters - bringing into the ring our very own Richard "The Tank" Barrett.

Richard "The Tank" Barrett V Dylan Bork

Round 1 It was obvious from the bell both men weren't here to mess about and Richie pilled in with some fierce punches & kicks - Bork returning fire and they moved around the ring without a seconds breather. Richie comes forward and decks the Bork with a great punch. Obviously upset gets up and is ready to fight again. Richie holds his gloves out as a mark of respect and Bork fly's in with a front kick and a few punches - Richie smiles with his Gum Shielded mouth as if to say - "Your Gone" None stop first round - this was going to be tough and stamina would play a part. Richie has been training with Paul at their club and the style and class of Richie was well above Bork's. The first round ended with Richie ahead on points.

Richard Barret putting in some feirce strikes - decks Bork in each round

Round 2
Richie comes out ready to end this battle and lands more great shots into the legs body and head of Bork. Bork beginning to tire allows Richie to move forward dictating the fight from then on. Richie forces his opponent into the corner and lands a combination of techniques - Bork is hit from all sides and goes down. The cheers from the crowd revs Richie higher as he sees Bork get a standing count. Again Richie gives Bork the chance to right the wrong and holds out the glove - Bork dives in with a turning kick to Richie's body but "The Tank" will take much more of that before he goes down. The look on Richie's face says that's enough Mr Nice Guy and goes to work on Bork again. Round ends - Richie wins the second round.

Round 3
Borks corner must have known he needed a knockout to win and Bork came out to do that. However Richie wanted to prove his own point and "The Tank" lived up to his name as he fired in a huge turning kick within seconds of the opening bell, then another and another now Richie could smell victory. Again Richie piled in taking the opponent from White Lotus Kickboxing club into the corner - by now tired and beaten feels the thundering shots from "The Tank" - He goes down again. Soke moves in and takes a look into the eyes of Bork - he senses that he is not all there and gives him the count - when he asks him how many fingers he was holding up Bork answered wrong - dazed and confused. Soke waves the end of the fight - Richie "The Tank" winner - TKO.

The next fight was between Steve Ricketts (White Lotus- Glos) and Gordon Brennan (Scotland SCI) This fight lasted just under 1 ¼ minutes with the Scottish man the victor in the first round. KO

The crowd now excited as another one of our Chongshin Do members came out the dressing room to a huge cheer -

"Big Ben" Vowels (Sutton) V's Daniel Gavin (Isle of White)
As the music Started 17 year old Big Ben looked confident his training had increased to four times a week over the last few months plus running most days - he looked good and ready. His opponent was also fit and as the two men sized each other up in the middle of the ring they stood all 6'2" of them eye to eye.

Round 1 Ben came out - moving well the jab he'd been working on coming out at super speed for a big man. His opponent backing of to the corner Big Ben landing a heavy turning kick - then bang. A long reaching jab from both men land together Daniel's jab just the more accurate took Ben by surprise and left him on the canvas, shaken but ok Ben stood up - his nose a little bloody. Soke attends the nose and the fighters continue the battle. Ben now fired up takes the forward stance and moves in pushing Daniel to the ropes. Soke separates the two men and as they clash with a fierce barrage then BANG Ben lands the text book right to the chin of Daniel. His head turns & lifts and he drops like a stone onto his knees. The crowd goes wild - a knockdown each in the first round! Ben now lightly bouncing in the neutral corner, looking at Daniel getting the standing count, lifts his spirits. Just enough time left to get tangled up in more punches and it's the end of a crowd pleasing round.

-

Round2 Ben comes out again with great technique, landing great kicks, just when it looks like Ben is controlling the fight and the first time nerves both men AGAIN land huge punches at the same time Ben and Dan stumble back, Ben looses his balance and sits with a bump. Dan rocks back to the ropes and seeing Ben on the deck somehow gains composure and Soke is giving Ben a count. After the count Soke was concerned aboutthe risk to let Ben continue -

Arron Dovey (Sutton) V Tim Newman (Norfolk)
The crowd had no time to relax as another of our men Arron Dovey came out of the changing rooms to the cheering crowd. His opponent Tim Newman from Norfolk had weighed in a few Kg's heavier than Arron and had much more experience. It says a lot about someone knowing this information and still willing to fight him. As Tim entered the ring you could see physically he was in good shape and on the heavier side - this did not perturb Arron as we know "never judge someone by what they look like" - however strong he looked Arron was there to test himself - and this would be a big one.

Round 1 Arron opens the round with a heavy turning kick to the legs of Newman followed by a barrage of punches - both exchange punches as Newman jumps in with a front kick sending Arron against the ropes, holds his head back with his glove and throws a couple of shots at Dovey. Soke separates the two men and warns Newman of holding. Arron shakes his head - annoyed by this, steams in with some great combinations, low turning kicks, front kicks and aggressive commanding blows that land with force. Newman gets caught early and has to swamp Arron in full flow stopping the bombardment. Soke separates the two and Arron takes the lead again and lands another great front kick and follows up with more head & body shots. Right on the bell Newman lands a good punch to the jaw of Dovey and they return to their corners. Arron's round!.

Round 2 Newman comes out hard this round using his weight advantage takes Dovey to the corner and lands a heavy front kick sending Dovey to the floor. Dovey is straight up and continues taking some big shots - hanging in - Soke breaks it up with seconds to go and this time its Dovey who lands a peach right on the bell. Newmans round.
Round 3 With a round each both had to impress the judges this time to take the winners trophy. This round ended as it started - like a war ! Arrons kicking landing heavier than Newman's but Newman had just the weight advantage he needed to keep pressure on and the battle came to an end with Newman the victor on only a couple of points. - great fight Arron against a heavier more experienced fighter - Well done. And the first to go the distance so far in the program!

The fifth fight was between Eric Axford (Scotland)and Mark Brewer (Glos) This fight was the shortest all night with the fight ending just a few seconds into the first round. A heavy turning kick to the head of the Gloucestershire man left him decked and out. Paramedics were needed and a reminder of how dangerous this extreme sport is. Both shook hands and no-one was hThe sixth fight was between James Easton a MAAS champion and Simon Peverly from Spartans club in Sunderland. Both experienced fighters and the skill, ring craft and movement was obvious from the start - cautious fighting - quick bursts of energy followed by jabs and kicks to force an opening. Then Bang another KO - uppercuts landing one after the other closed down the Scots computer and he hit the canvas for the 5th KO/TKO of the night!!urt.
