top member achieves his dream and is awarded the prestigious title of Black Belt
Congratulations - to the new Black Belt Richard Green who had taken up the
sport some - nine years ago. He had prepared well and fully deserved this
great achievement with a great performance throughout the 6 hour Grading. Well
done from all the Chongshin Do Black Belts. About the Black Belt Exam Before
the exam commenced the candidates have to write an essay about the human body
its systems and how it relates to moves within Chongshin Do. Then on Saturday
it was a grueling 6 hour exam starting at 10am with a written paper containing
questions on techniques and the Chongshin Do syllabus. Then the hard physical
exam starting with a two hour Jujitsu exam taking in all aspects of this art,
following this a four our physical test / exam on all aspects of the TKD &
Kickboxing syllabus including Forms, combinations from Forms, Sparring (1 on 1,
2 on 1, free sparring, 1 & 2 step) plus kickboxing drills and finally, exhausted
they have to show their true fighting spirit with a demonstration of their power
and technique - breaking many pieces of wood / boards and a breeze block in a
demonstration of power, spirit and skill of their training. Richard and the Black
Tag members performed very well and should be very proud of their performance.
Congratulations from all the Instructors & members of Chongshin Do. Future
Black Belts - start your preparation now! Also grading that day were Holly
Taylor, Gurjinder Ghuman and John Farrely - who are now 1st Kup (Black Tag)
and only one step away from attaining their Black Belts - along with Nathan Salman
who had to re-take later in the year. These and others will be preparing for their
Black Belt later next year. Soke
Seminar and Sponsored Spars
 Little
boy Nathan from the Norman Lord Association comes to say thanks for the walking
frame.
Every
year we hold a sponsored event that so far has raised over £10,000 - this
has been given to many local and national charities. This year we had a combined
Seminar and Sponsored Spar with Soke Dossett - a seminar on Combat Jujitsu and
Self-Defence was attended by over 50 members of Chongshindo and Spirit Combat.
The day finished with a spring event that raised over £700 - combining this
with the individual clubs sponsored spars - we have raised over £1000 again
- many thanks to you all. This year we have promised £750 to the Norman
Lord association in Sutton Coldfield - this will buy two walking frames for handicapped
children. This will make a massive difference to the lives of a few lovely kids
- thanks - update on when the cheque is presented soon
Others
that achieved a lot throughout the year were also commended with Student of the
Year Awards. Students of the Year 2004 Walsall for the first time
given to a couple - Linsey Phillips and Kevin Butler, these two
have trained religiously 2-3 times a week for years and have missed only a handful
of classes they have also taken part in ALL of the seminars, kickboxing events
and SENI and were recently promoted to Blue Belt. Sutton / Four Oaks - John
Farelly who has had Two full-contact fights without defeat for Chongshin Do
and also took part in Seminars and SENI in 2004 worked hard with (when work aloud)
regular commitment - he was promoted to Black Tag in December and will look forward
to taking his Black Belt this year! Sutton Junior Student Award went to
Ciaran O'Reilly for his continued development within the club - he also
helps out with warming the class up - a task which some adults find daunting!
Great Barr - Lyn Perks who has trained 2-3 times a week since starting
over a year ago and has developed and progressed very well to Blue Tag at the
end of the year. Bloxwich - Wayne Powers receives this award for his
efforts in 2004 and junior award to David Barrett both took part in the
Kickboxing events and were both promoted to Blue Belt in December. - Well done
to all these and other members who have achieved a great deal throughout the year
